Bethesda says Elder Scrolls 6 is in ‘early development’, more news still ‘years away’
“For now, Starfield is our focus, and it will continue to be our priority for some time”
Bethesda has warned Elder Scrolls fans not to expect a significant update on the next series entry anytime soon.
The highly anticipated Elder Scrolls 6 was announced at E3 2018 with a brief teaser trailer which confirmed it was in pre-production at Bethesda Game Studios.
However, Bethesda also revealed Starfield at the same event, and the sci-fi RPG was ahead of the fantasy one in its release pipeline.
Following several delays, Starfield will launch this week for some pre-order customers, and Elder Scrolls 6 will the studio’s next flagship game, ahead of Fallout 5.
In an interview with Spanish publication Vandal (translated by GameSpot), Bethesda’s head of publishing Pete Hines reportedly said Elder Scrolls 6 “is in early development”, but that fans shouldn’t expect more news about the game to be revealed until “a few years after” Starfield’s launch.
“So no, don’t expect to hear anything about The Elder Scrolls 6 anytime soon,” he said. “For now, Starfield is our focus, and it will continue to be our priority for some time until we speak about anything else.”
Starfield and Elder Scrolls series director Todd Howard was recently asked if he regretted announcing the fantasy sequel so long ago.
“I have asked myself that a lot. I don’t know. I probably would’ve announced it more casually,” he told GQ.
Commenting on what he’d like to achieve with the game, Howard said: “It’s like… I don’t want to answer, but I want to be polite. I will say that we want it to fill that role of the ultimate fantasy-world simulator. And there are different ways to accomplish that given the time that has passed.”
