Sony’s Bend Studio reveals multiplayer plans for its new IP alongside a fresh logo
The game will build on the open-world systems of Days Gone
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Bend Studio has teased details about its next game alongside the reveal of a new company logo.
Formed in 1993, the Oregon, US-based studio is the creator of the Syphon Filter series, Resistance: Retribution, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and most recently Days Gone.
Bend online community specialist Kevin McAllister provides a look back at the history of the studio in a new PlayStation Blog post, which ends with a tease of an in development project.
PlayStation Studios boss Herman Hulst previously confirmed that Bend was working on a new IP that builds on the open-world gameplay of zombie shooter Days Gone, which was released for PS4 in 2019 and for PC in 2021.
“Today, we are excited to share just a snippet of news on our current project,” Bend’s McAllister wrote on Tuesday.
“We are currently working on a new IP that includes multiplayer and builds upon the open-world systems of Days Gone, but brings you a whole new world that we are extremely excited to craft for you. We cannot wait to reveal it to you when the time is right.”
Game director Jeff Ross and writer/director John Garvin, the two most senior creatives behind Days Gone, announced their departure from Bend in December 2020.
Both men had been with the studio (which was previously known as Eidetic) from its origin days in the mid-90s, having written and designed PSOne action game Syphon Filter and its sequels.
It was claimed the pair left Bend following internal conflict about the studio’s future direction after Sony rejected a pitch for Days Gone 2.
Ross announced last month that he had joined Tomb Raider studio Crystal Dynamics as design director.
