Fall Guys is suffering online problems as the game goes free-to-play
The game debuts on Switch, Xbox and Epic Games Store as the Steam version is pulled from sale
Fall Guys is currently experiencing online issues coinciding with its free-to-play launch and release on new platforms.
“We are aware that some players are unable to matchmake right now!” the game’s official Twitter account posted a couple of hours ago.
“Your continued patience through this is appreciated”, it added more recently.
Fall Guys released for Steam and PS4 in August 2020, with the console version available for free to PlayStation Plus members that month.
The game quickly became the most downloaded PS Plus title of all time and had sold 11 million copies on PC by the end of 2020, according to developer Mediatonic.
UPDATE 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST: Mediatonic has said Fall Guys servers are starting to improve, but that it’s still working to fix online problems.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES: Almost two years since the chaotic battle royale game debuted on PS4 and PC, it has today been made available as a free-to-play title, and it has also been released for the first time on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and the Epic Games Store.
Fall Guys has been removed from sale on Steam too, although existing owners will continue to receive full support.
Epic Games acquired Tonic Games Group, the parent company of Mediatonic, for an undisclosed sum last year.
Fall Guys was originally due to be released for Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S last summer, but it was delayed to give Mediatonic time to implement new features like cross-platform play.
The game now supports cross-platform play and cross-progression on all platforms.
Players who already owned Fall Guys should receive a free Legacy Pack to coincide with the game going free-to-play. It includes three costumes and access to Season 1’s new premium season pass, which will run alongside a free season pass.
It was announced last month that a new mode enabling players to create their own Fall Guys rounds is in development, although it’s not planned for release in the near future.
