Final Fantasy VII writer asks fans to stop demanding that he kill off certain characters

One of the key writers in the Final Fantasy series has asked fans to stop demanding that he kill off characters they don’t like.

Kazushige Nojima is the lead writer on Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, but has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to request that people stop trying to kill his creations.

“I write every character with love,” Nojima tweeted. “You are free to have any opinions or thoughts, but please stop sending me messages saying I should delete this character or even kill that one.

“I don’t want to block or mute too many of you, and I don’t want to lock my account.”

Nojima previously co-wrote the original Final Fantasy VII game, and went on to write Final Fantasy VIII, X and X-2, as well as the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children animated movie.

He also co-wrote the original Kingdom Hearts, and was the main writer on Kingdom Hearts II.

He returned to Final Fantasy VII to serve as story and scenario writer on Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – the latter is due for release on February 29.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s creative director Tetsuya Nomura recently revealed that the game – which is the second in a planned trilogy making up a Final Fantasy VII remake – ends at the Forgotten Capital.

Without spoiling anything, The Forgotten Capital is the location of one of the most talked-about ‘shock’ plot twists in Final Fantasy history – as such, it appears that Rebirth may end with this moment as a cliffhanger, to prepare players for the third game.

The game’s director Naoki Hamaguchi also told Indonesian website Gamebrott that there will be “a big surprise” when it comes to “the you-know-what moment” in that scene.
