Uncharted director’s Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra revealed
The game will star Captain America and Black Panther
Marvel and Skydance New Media have unveiled Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the game being helmed by Uncharted 1 – 3 director Amy Hennig.
Revealed during an Unreal Engine showcase at GDC, the game stars Drew Moerlein as Captain America and Khary Payton as Black Panther, and will release for unspecified platforms in 2025.
“In the chaos of war, worlds collide,” a synopsis reads. “Skydance New Media and Marvel Games share an original story where an ensemble of four heroes must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy.”
According to Skydance, the “narrative-driven, ensemble adventure” will have players controlling an ensemble of four characters: a young Steve Rogers, aka Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network.
The game is the first title from Skydance New Media, a studio formed in 2019 by Hollywood production company Skydance.
“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” said studio president Hennig, who previously spent a decade at Naughty Dog, where she was the creative director and lead writer of Sony’s Uncharted series.
“The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience.
“It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”
