Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition spotted on Xbox store
Update: Ubisoft has announced the game after mistakenly releasing an early version of it
Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition has been spotted on the Xbox store.
This follows an ESRB rating for the game in August and Xbox achievements appearing online for the game on Monday.
The game’s now-deleted store listing (as spotted by MauroNL) reads: “Embark on this epic adventure in up to 4K and 60 fps with improved graphics, controls, and audio, along with brand-new autosave and cross-save features.
Update
Ubisoft has officially announced Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. The company also said it mistakenly released an early version of the game to some of its customers.
“Enjoy exclusive new rewards as you explore the planet and discover more about Jade’s past in a new treasure hunt throughout Hillys.
“Put your skills to the test thanks to the new speedrun mode and updated achievements, and learn more about the game’s development and secrets in the anniversary gallery.”
Beyond Good & Evil is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft and released in 2003. The game was released on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC. In 2011 it was rereleased on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Ubisoft has been planning a sequel to 2003’s Beyond Good & Evil for the best part of two decades.
It first teased Beyond Good & Evil 2 with a trailer in 2008, although this was followed by almost a decade of silence before the title resurfaced at E3 2017 and 2018, when the publisher revealed it would take the form of a prequel.
It was announced in August 2020 that a feature film adaptation of Beyond Good and Evil was also in the works at Netflix.
This February, a Kotaku report claimed Ubisoft Montpellier managing director Guillaume Carmona had left the studio amid a labour investigation by local government authorities.
Three sources told the site that Carmona’s exit followed a year in which dozens of developers took extended leave for stress or sickness as the studio continued to struggle with development of Beyond Good & Evil 2.
According to the report, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was still not even technically in pre-production as Ubisoft Montpellier had yet to settle on a creative vision for the project.
And in July, Beyond Good & Evil 2 creative director Emile Morel passed away at the age of 40. The game designer also worked on Rayman Legends during 14 years with Ubisoft.
